Makani starts to work

Over the last few days I’ve been taking Makani, now 18 months old for walks.  He is wearing a horse collar (upside down) and pulling a small “sled”.  Because we have to walk on pavement, he’s going to need to be shod in the near future.  So far he’s not foot sore, but once he’s pulling real loads and working regularly I expect he’ll need some foot protection.  There is a glue-on shoe for cows called “cow slips” that I’ve asked on ox forums whether they will work for working oxen.  If not, Billy is going to have to light up the forge and make some ox shoes.  We’re hoping to have him pulling the cart next week!
